Calgary Christmas WishList falling short

There’s a case of wishful hoping at the Calgary Drop-In & Rehab Centre this holiday season.

Their annual Calgary Christmas WishList is in jeopardy of seeing almost half of its 700 requests go unanswered.

The wishes, with a maximum value of $50 dollars each, are simple to most people, but the centre’s executive director said the wishes are huge for their clients.

“Bus tickets to get someone to work, good mittens because the weather has been so cold, work boots for the fellow that goes up to Fort McMurray to work in the oil patch,” Debbie Newman suggested. “I’m very worried. We only have a few days left before Christmas.”

She added, the centre understands the economic downturn is the key reason for lower donations.

“Obviously, a lot of agencies are struggling,” she said. “We have 340 gifts that need to be bought by Christmas Day.”
