Alberta PC party concludes investigation of harassment complaints

The investigation into harassment complaints at a provincial political party leadership convention is over.

It all started during Alberta’s PC Leadership conference in Red Deer back in November.

Former PC candidate Sandra Jansen and current candidate Jason Kenney filed formal complaints of intimidation and harassment to the party’s Leadership Election Committee.

This lead to an investigation, with the findings being released Sunday.

PC Alberta president Katherine O’Neill said while there is documented incidents of rude behaviour, there’s no evidence the actions were directed with intent.

“What it did also conclude is that there was no direct evidence that any of our leadership campaigns directed this behaviour,” O’Neill said.

O’Neill said the party will be looking at ways to prevent similar incidences in the future.

“Some of the ideas that have come up is that when you opt in to attend a PC Alberta event, to purchase a ticket, you would also agree to a code of conduct,” O’Neill said. “If you are found at any time going against that code of conduct, you would be asked to leave the event.”

She said the investigation did conclude a few days before the findings were released, and they are in the process of speaking with the complainants.

Since the incident, Sandra Jansen has crossed the floor to Alberta’s New Democratic Party.
