Driver treated for overdose after crash involving stolen vehicle

The dangers of opioids and Fentanyl were on display Monday afternoon in northeast Calgary after a serious crash involving a van and car.

It was around 4:30 when the two collided along Marlborough Way, sending a total of six to hospital.

The driver of the sedan, which was stolen, was overdosing on some type of opioid and paramedics had to use Naloxone to save his life.

EMS spokesperson Adam Loria tells 660 NEWS something wasn’t right with one of the patients.

“One of the individuals basically had an alternate level of consciousness when we were caring for him but that did normalize a little bit after we were en route to hospital,” he said.

Two people, a man and woman, were taken to Foothills Hospital with serious but non-life threatening injuries, while four other men had minor injuries.

The crash closed down Marlborough Way behind Marlborough Mall for several hours while police investigated.
