Airdrie Fire investigates suspicious fire along Main Street

A fully involved dumpster fire forced officials to evacuate several businesses in Airdrie Thursday night.

Airdrie Fire was called to the scene behind the Dollarama store at 2781 Main Street South around 8 o’clock.

Crews arrived to find the flames adjacent to the rear brick wall of the store, they evacuated it and other nearby stores as a precaution.

They were able to get it under control fairly quickly and entered each business to make sure the fire hadn’t made its way inside.

After eliminating any signs of smoke and monitoring the air quality, the area was deemed safe and most businesses went ahead and reopened.

Investigators are still looking into a cause but have enough information to deem it suspicious in nature.

No one was injured, damage is being estimated at $10,000.
