Calgary Stampeders ready for CFL awards night

A number of Calgary Stampeders are hoping to nab some hardware at the league’s annual awards night on Thursday.

The Stamps are represented in five of the seven categories: Bo Levi Mitchell for Most Outstanding Player, Jerome Messam for Most Outstanding Canadian, Derek Dennis for Most Outstanding Offensive Lineman, DaVaris Daniels for Most Outstanding Rookie and Dave Dickenson as Coach of the Year.

Mitchell helped guide Calgary to another West Division title, as well as a 16-game unbeaten streak during this season. He said it would be an honour to win the award.

“It would be something to cross off the list,” the quarterback stated. “It would obviously mean a lot because there are so many great players in the league.”

The awards are decided by the football reporters of Canada and the league’s head coaches.

The 104th Grey Cup between Calgary and Ottawa goes Sunday at 2 p.m. MT from Toronto’s BMO Field.
