FANS, CELEBRITIES AND POLITICIANS REMEMBER LEONARD COHEN

People from all walks off life are mourning the death of Leonard Cohen. The legendary composer, singer and writer died Thursday, he was 82. His fans ranged from Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to Hollywood celebrities like Bette Middler and Ron Howard. Trudeau says Cohen’s work resonated across generations and Canada and the world will miss him.

LEONARD COHEN’S DEATH HITS SADDEST OF NOTES FOR MANY CANADIAN MUSICIANS

For many Canadian musicians who grew up listening to and being inspired by Leonard Cohen, his death on Thursday was a blow. Singer-songwriter Ron Sexsmith called Cohen a man of wisdom who raised the bar pretty high for everyone else. Singer-songwriter Steven Page says Cohen’s poetry and music have been with him and every step of his life since he was 15.

CANADIANS HONOUR CANADA’S WAR DEAD TODAY

Remembrance Day services will be held from coast to coast today. Prime Minister Justin Trudeau and Gov. Gen. David Johnston will lead the main service in Ottawa today. Services will be held in communities across the country.

FAMILIES REMEMBER FALLEN SEARCH AND RESCUE PERSONNEL

As Canadians pause to reflect on the country’s war dead this Remembrance Day, the families of search and rescue personnel will also be reflecting on the sacrifices their loved ones made. Liz Quinn, whose late son Sgt. Mark Salesse died in a 2015 training exercise, hopes Canadians will also take a moment to remember those with the Canadian Armed Forces search and rescue who died in the line of duty.

VANCOUVERITES PROTEST TRUMP ELECTION WIN

Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of Vancouver Thursday night to protest Donald Trump’s victory in the U.S. presidential election. Dozens of placards with slogans disparaging Trump were seen at the event. One New Yorker who opted to visit Canada to avoid the election night chaos this week said he wasn’t expecting an anti-Trump rally in Canada. But Steve Cucuzza said he wasn’t surprised adding the global community has every reason to be afraid of the prospect of Trump in the White House.
