Winter warriors flocking to Sunshine Village for early start to the season

For the first time in decades, skiers and snowboarders are bombing down Sunshine Village in the first weekend of November.

Sunshine became the first ski resort in Canada to open this season, after enjoying a huge dump of snow. And the forecast calling for more of the white stuff this week.

“It is a winter wonderland at Sunshine right now,” Social media manager Kendra Scurfield said. “It’s snowing above goat thigh. Big, fat flakes. The village is completely white and beautiful.”

This is the earliest opening for Sunshine in over 30 years, and it is drawing lots of attention.

“We have lots of people coming up from Calgary, from Vancouver, from Whistler, from other resorts, from Edmonton, from Red Deer. People are just so excited,” Scurfield said.

Plus, as extra incentive to wax up your boards or skis, adult lift tickets are offered at a 25 per cent discount until further notice. Scurfield thinks this is the start of a memorable winter.

“I am beyond excited for the rest of the year. I feel that it’s going to be a great season in my bones. I feel that the snow is going to be unparalleled and I can’t wait to have more powder days.”
