Two Albertans in custody after violent marijuana shop robbery in Vancouver

Two men from Medicine Hat and Calgary are each facing a few charges after a violent marijuana shop robbery in Vancouver a week and a half ago.

It happened just before 9 p.m. on Sunday, October 16th, three men and a woman armed with guns entered the Stressed and Depressed marijuana store, taking cash and “products.”

Vancouver Police say one staff member was injured during the incident.

“They didn’t require any medical attention from my understanding, obviously a very traumatic and frightening incident for all of the staff involved,” said Constable Brian Montague.

On Saturday, officers searched three homes, two in Surrey and one in Delta, arresting the trio.

The woman involved in the robbery hasn’t been located and if anyone has any information they’re being urged to come forward.

The first charged was Darnel Matsui, 28 years old, from Medicine Hat, Alberta. He was charged with robbery with violence, pointing a firearm, uttering threats, uttering a firearm during the commission of an indictable offence and unauthorized possession of a firearm.

Calgary man, 26 year old Hosea Smith is also charged with robbery with violence and assault.

A 20 year old Surrey man is also facing charges.

Vancouver Police say they’ve seen an increase in crime, which they are attributing, in part, to the poor economy in Alberta.
