British Airways crew treated in hospital after emergency landing at Vancouver airport

RICHMOND, BC (NEWS 1130) – British Airways says a plane travelling from San Francisco to London had to divert to Vancouver overnight after members of the crew reported feeling ill.

Vancouver Coastal Health says 25 people, all of them crew members, were taken to various hospitals across the region for medical checks as a precaution.

The Airbus A380 took off around 10 p.m. EDT yesterday and landed in Vancouver several hours later. BA says it is investigating the cause of the incident.

Vancouver International Airport is deferring all questions to BA.

The flight was halfway across southern Saskatchewan when it turned back. Logs show the pilots made contact with air traffic controllers in Medicine Hat, Alberta before re-routing.

The jet can hold 469 passengers but BA did not say exactly how many were aboard, although there are reports as many as 400 people were on the flight.

Passengers were taken off the flight and put up in hotels and they will be re-booked on other flights.
