Groups demand renewable energy targets from NDP

A group of renewable energy companies, industry associations and think-tanks are putting the pressure on the province to take action on its commitment to have renewables supply at least 30 per cent of the province’s electricity by 2030.

The groups have signed a letter to Premier Rachel Notley and other members of her cabinet urging the government to make the plan law.

It’s their belief that a legislated target will result in more long-term jobs, lower costs for power, and a more stable electricity system with increased competition.

The president and CEO of the Canadian Solar Industries Association says de-carbonising and diversifying Alberta’s electricity supply is the right thing to do, especially since renewable energy has never been cheaper.
