Another name has been added to the list of candidates vying for the title of federal Conservative Party leader.

Conservative MP Steven Blaney, who had already filed his nomination papers on Wednesday, made an official announcement Sunday at the annual brunch of the Conservative association in his riding of Bellechasse-Etchemins-Levis in Quebec City.

The 51-year-old has been an MP since 2006.

He was promoted to cabinet in 2011, heading the veteran affairs department.

Blaney was appointed public safety minister in 2013.

Deepak Obhrai is the only Albertan candidate to put his name forward so far.

Maxime Bernier, Andrew Scheer, Kellie Leitch, Michael Chong, and Brad Trost are the other declared candidates.

Former MPs Chris Alexander and Pierre Lemieux are expected to announce their candidacy soon.

MP Lisa Raitt and businessman Kevin O’Leary are also considering a bid.
