Notley slammed by Albertans in another poll, but praised outside of province

There’s yet another poll out Friday showing Albertans are disenchanted with the job Premier Rachel Notley is doing.

However, Canadians outside Alberta have a differing opinion, according to the latest study from Mainstreet Research.

Executive Vice President David Valentin says 57 per cent of Albertans disapprove of Notley’s performance, but nationally respondents paint a different picture.

“Forty-four per cent of the country think she’s doing a good job. Only 32 per cent say she’s not,” he said.

He explained, while Albertans may be frustrated with the NDP’s green policies, they are seen as positives in the rest of the country, which may explain the national numbers.

For Notley’s ratings to improve here, Valentin believes her green initiatives will have to pay off with a pipeline approval like Kinder Morgan, Energy East or Keystone XL.

“So, she has three chances at that. I think if she scores one, she’ll be looking good, but you know, it still remains to be seen,” Valentin said.

He says a continued boost in the price of oil would also help.
