City of Calgary reaches understanding with school boards on land use

A monumental day for the city as it signed a memorandum of understanding on land use with its two largest school boards.

The goal is to create some much needed flexibility between facilities moving forward with new communities.

Calgary Board of Education’s Joy Bowen-Eyre says it’s about building complete communities and maximizing land going forward.

“Any public facilities that we know are integral for communities, they are then shared on a site with a school.”

A formal joint use agreement has been effect since 1985.

This new model was needed for a Calgary city charter that municipal politicians continue to seek from the province.
