Family, police seek help in ‘suspicious’ disappearance of New Brunswick woman

MONCTON, N.B. – Tears ran down Gillian Fletcher’s cheeks and her voice cracked as the New Brunswick woman pleaded publicly for any information that might solve the mysterious disappearance of her daughter nearly a month ago.

Jami Springer was last confirmed to have been seen in the late afternoon of Aug. 31 on McLaughlin Drive in Moncton, and police call the 27-year-old woman’s disappearance suspicious.

“This is our family’s worst nightmare, wondering where Jami is, who she is with, and if she is safe. We know that somebody must know something,” said Fletcher, flanked by her son and Springer’s father, as she spoke to reporters outside the RCMP headquarters in Moncton Wednesday morning.

“It has been a month of waiting, of sleepless nights, praying and hoping to have the phone ring and hear her voice on the other end.”

Fletcher said members of her family have been searching, and flooding social media with pictures of Springer in the hopes someone will recognize her and have information to help find her.

“Please everyone, keep sharing this on social media so that someone, anyone who knows something can see it. Please help our family, help us find Jami,” she said.

RCMP Staff Sgt. Maurice Comeau said it is very unusual for a person to go missing without someone having knowledge about it.

He wouldn’t say if foul play is suspected.

“The reason it is suspicious is because she has had no contact with anyone for the past month. For that reason we find that suspicious and for now, it is still a missing person investigation,” Comeau said.

The RCMP have posted numerous pictures of Springer — most showing her various tattoos.

“The tattoos include a flower on her upper back, a butterfly on her lower back that extends around her waist, a multi-coloured tattoo of a birthday cake along with various other tattoos on the upper part of her right arm and a red, white and blue popsicle on the inner part of her right arm,” Comeau said.

Springer also has a large tattoo of the Lord’s Prayer that goes the entire length of her thigh on the left leg.

She is Caucasian, with dark brown hair and brown eyes. She is five-feet, four-inches tall and weighs approximately 106 pounds.

Comeau said police have followed a number of tips from the public, but continue to treat the disappearance as a missing person case.

Family members declined to take questions from reporters on hand, and later refused to provide other details about Springer.

Her mother said they just want her back.

“We love her dearly, and we want to see her again. Please help us bring her home,” Fletcher said.
