Requests at Veterans’ Food Bank on the rise

The need for food hampers is on the rise across Calgary, and veterans and their families are no exception.

Poppy Fund Chief Administrative Officer Joey Bleviss says demand is up 30 per cent from a year ago, as Remembrance Day approaches.

“You know, we’re getting a lot of the younger vets who unfortunately have been caught up with the economic downturn, the rising cost of the goods of course. A lot of our corporate donors because of the layoffs – they’re not in a position to assist as much as, I’m sure, they would like,” he said.

You can drop off donations at any legion branch or at the Poppy Fund office in the 4500 block of 6 Street NE, or call 403-265-6304
