Calgary artist partners with Homefront to raise victims for domestic violence

A Calgary artist has partnered with Homefront in hopes of raising funds for victims of domestic violence.

Lynette Melnyk has donated 40 small paintings of her “Sister” series to the not-for-profit which will be auctioned off at “The Woman of Inspiration Breakfast.”

“Homefront is just a fabulous organization, I believe it’s the first one in Canada and other places want to do it as well. They combine with the Justice system and the Courts system, they work with other families in need at risk.”

Melnyk decided to make the move after losing her own sister to domestic violence.

“The paintings are of strong women, they each have their own individual name and personality and they have a strong motto with each one,” she said.

There will be 40 tables at the breakfast and the paintings will be available by silent auction with 100 per cent of the proceeds going to the organization.

“After man years it is still difficult but the loss of my only sister and sibling through domestic violence pushes me forward to help people see the value they have to offer,” she added.
