Samsung Canada working with Health Canada to push up a recall of the Galaxy Note 7

A very popular phone will soon be under recall in Canada after several instances of the battery catching fire.

Samsung Canada revealed late Friday night it is working with Health Canada on a corrective plan to expedite the recall in this country.

It comes after the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commissioner issued a warning to owners to stop using the phones due to the risk of explosions and fires.

There have been at least 35 recent reports of the lithium-ion battery catching fire.

They say all consumers who own a Galaxy Note 7 should “power them down and stop charging or using the device.”

Consumers in Canada who have a Galaxy Note 7 can replace their current phone with a new device under terms of the Canadian Product Exchange, which was announced on Tuesday.

Samsung Canada adds the terms of the recall will be announced when they become available.

The Canadian and U-S governments are warning airline travellers about the smartphones. Transport Canada and the U-S Federal Aviation Administration urge passengers not to use or charge the phones while flying, or put them in checked baggage.

The phones affected include:
