Backcountry campsite closed after bear damages tent on Lake Minnewanka

Parks Canada officials Friday closed a backcountry campground after reports a bear had damaged a tent.

No word if anyone was inside the tent, Parks Canada officials were not available for comment.

In the bear warnings of their Banff National Park site, they reveal it happened at LM31 on Lake Minnewanka.

The event led to them to issue warnings about two other nearby sites in the vicinity, LM20 and LM22.

The closure is in effect until further notice, violators face a $25,000 fine.

It’s led them to once again warn people in the area that they should have bear spray and know how to use it.

They add never approach, entice or feed wildlife, ensure all food and garbage is stored securely using designated food storage facilities and always keep a safe distance away from the bears.
