Calgary man gets 200 years for attempted murder in Montana

A Calgarian has been sentenced to 200 years behind bars, without any chance of parole in Montana.

Michael Ilk, 42, was found guilty of trying to murder his girlfriend and her co-worker last year by firing a 9 mm handgun 14 times.

His sentence amounts to two 80 year terms for attempted deliberate homicide and two 20 year terms for aggravated assault.

The judge actually doubled the sentence recommended by the state, saying he doesn’t see any way to protect the public with Ilk outside of prison.

Ilk told the court it was self defence and that he’s not a horrible and violent person.
