Another successful season for “Taber Corn” despite weather woes

It’s a late-summer treat for many southern Albertans, Taber corn, one producer behind the timely crop say time is quickly running out for you to sink your teeth into a cob.

Dave Jensen with Jensen Farms anticipates there may only be ten days left to the season.

“It was just the weather, we had some pretty strange weather in July in terms of cold spells,” said Jensen, in terms of the slightly lower than usual yield.

“I think people’s reaction has been very well, I’ve had a lot of texts and emails telling me how good it was so I think overall it’s been a fairly successful year,” he said.

Anyone who doesn’t want to make the trip to Taber can still find it for sale in Calgary.

Jensen says it’s easy to distinguish their product between the fakes because they issue a certificate to the proper agents.

“We have a Calgary manager up there and if we have a suspicious person selling Taber corn we go check it out and see who it is,” he said.
