Alberta government reaches agreement with doctors

The NDP government and the Alberta Medical Association (AMA) have reached a tentative agreement to improve healthcare in the province.

Health Minister Sarah Hoffman says it’s expected to slow spending, while protecting important services.

The agreement includes a plan to place doctors in communities that need them, as well as new information technology and data sharing.

It will also compensate physicians based on the time and quality of care, rather than number of services provided.

The AMA will be consulting with members in coming weeks, and is expected to vote on the new terms in mid-October.
