PSAC President calls out Energy East protestors

A local energy organization is expressing frustration as another day of Energy East hearings is postponed in Montreal.

Activists disrupted Monday’s meeting before it could even begin — linking arms and chanting.

Three protesters were arrested.

Now, the president of the Petroleum Services Association of Canada is calling the display “un-Canadian.”

“Pure bologna in my mind,” said Mark Salkeld, who believes every voice should be heard, and calls displays from protestors disrespectful.

“That’s just not the average Canadian way. That’s who PSAC represents is the middle-class Canadian, blue collar worker, and that’s just not how we do things.”

He says pipeline is the safest means to move product to market and this delay is costing Canadians good jobs.

Salkeld adds, the suggestion we can’t trust the National Energy Board or the government to make educated decisions is a bunch of noise.

“If anything, it definitely turns off people’s opinion towards the way they’re going about doing things.”
