Man injured during Calgary police arrest suffered broken ribs, collapsed lung

The province’s police watchdog says a man arrested by Calgary police a month ago suffered broken ribs and a collapsed lung.

On August 27th, CPS announced a total of four officers were being investigated relating to an arrest on July 30th that ended with the accused suffering serious injuries.

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team has confirmed it is investigating the circumstances surrounding the arrest of the 34-year-old man around the 6700 block of Macleod Trail.

ASIRT says police initially followed the SUV into a parking lot because it had an obscured license plate and once the officer activated emergency lights, the suspect fled on foot.

In a statement, ASIRT says the Director of Law Enforcement was told of the injuries on July 31st, but it was Calgary Police who investigated and at some point uncovered in-car digital video that lead them to forward the case to ASIRT.
