Art appraisal company looks for hidden gems in Calgary

A painting or sketch by a Canadian artist that’s been in your family for years could be worth a lot of money.

The company Consignor Canadian Fine Art is coming back to Calgary next week looking for more hidden treasures.

President Rob Cowley says they found a valuable piece of art in the city, during a previous visit.

“There was a lot of work just by known western Canadian artists. One work that comes to mind was a work by Illingworth Kerr. It was a small nocturne scene by the landscape by the artist. We picked it up that day and took it back with us, and that sold for about $4,600 during our spring auction,” he said.

Consignor is holding a free public appraisal day in Calgary on September 7 at the Sheraton Suites Eau Claire.
