Alberta’s premier is thanking former prime minister Stephen Harper for his years of public service.
Following his resignation Friday, Premier Rachel Notley issued a statement, saying Harper has always been a proud Canadian, Albertan and dedicated family man.
“He served our country for many years as prime minister and as the Member of Parliament for Calgary Heritage,” Notley said in the statement. “His statement of apology to former students of Indian residential schools in 2008 was an important step on the road to healing and reconciliation with Canada’s Indigenous peoples, a road we continue to travel today.”
The premier says she wishes him and his family well.
