Former police official wants Calgary to host the 2017 World Police and Fire Games

Sunny Singh, who is a three-time World Police and Fire Games taekwondo champion, has launched a petition hoping to drum up support for Calgary to resurrect the 2017 event.

The Games have been cancelled because of ongoing labour disputes between the city of Montreal and its police and fire unions.

Singh believes Calgary could convince games organizers to bring the event here next year, as long as there is enough support, which is why he has launched an online petition.

Calgary hosted the World Police & Fire Games back in 1997.

Singh says the competition could attract 10,000 athletes, pumping millions of dollars into the local economy.

If an alternate venue is not found, the next time the games would be staged in 2019 in China.
