Calgary teen to begin major trek to help Alberta Children’s Hospital

Young Calgarian Rachel Barlow will be spending her last days of summer vacation helping others.

The 15-year-old will be riding her bike from the British Columbia border to Saskatchewan all in support of the Alberta Children’s Hospital.

Her inspiration stemmed from her own visit to the hospital when she broke her leg and, after seeing all the sick kids, began to think of what she could do to help others.

“Well first it was like I wanted to run across Canada but because I play such a high level of soccer I knew it wasn’t realistic. So we were thinking Alberta, but still, running would take too long so we knew we wanted to do something athletic so we thought of biking,” says Rachel.

She will be embarking on the journey with her parents on Monday, August 22nd and expects the 600 km journey will take ten days.

Rachel is hoping to raise $10,000. If you would like to donate, visit RachelsRide2016.com.
