Investigation finds leaked provincial government documents broke Freedom of Information Act

A damning new report from the Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner takes aim at the former provincial government.

It all started with a document leak to the media back in August 2014.

The document highlighted data charges from four officials, including the then deputy premier, Thomas Lukaszuk.

Lukaszuk quickly found himself under fire for $20,000 in roaming charges from a trip to Poland.

An investigation has found someone on the council leaked the information which broke the rules under the Freedom of Information Act.

Commissioner Jill Clayton says in a release, the act is in place for a reason which is to provide an outlet for the controlled release of information.
