No word on wolf strategy yet from Parks Canada staff

No word yet from Parks Canada staff as to whether or not they’ll have to shift their strategy in dealing with wolves.

A third wolf incursion into a campground in Banff National Park is keeping staff busy and unable to comment on the current plan.

It all stems from an incident on Sunday where a wolf pack ventured into Two Jack Main campground in search of food.

On Monday morning, an un-collared wolf, believed to be the same individual that was at Tunnel Mountain campground searching for food, was discovered.

It’s unclear as to its sex and whether or not it did find something at the campsites.

The other two adult members are collared and believed to be not involved.

Parks Canada is asking campers to obey all camping regulations and keep their food and garbage secure.

The penalty for not keeping a clean campsite is a mandatory court appearance with a fine of up to $25,000.

Questions about the process and whether changes have been made started to surface after officials had to put down two other wolves in recent weeks.

A Parks Canada spokesperson issued the following statement Tuesday afternoon, “given the busy season and staff working to address the current issue with the wolves, this makes them unavailable for interviews at this time.”

They’re hoping to address the media by the end of the week.
