Calgary rower pleased and disappointed following Atlantic ocean voyage

By

It took about 53 days, but Laval St. Germain has completed his 4500 kilometre solo row across the Atlantic from Nova Scotia to the coast of France.

The Calgary adventurer said Mother Nature was on his side, “I had time to get used to the boat before the weather and sea conditions became more difficult.”

While pleased he finished the row, he is disappointed only about $50,000 was donated during his journey, well short of his $200,000 fund raising goal for the Alberta Cancer Foundation.

He’s urging people to relive his journey by visiting the Confront Ocean Row Cancer website.

St. Germain suggests the struggling economy and the fact it’s summer are likely a couple of reasons why people didn’t give, but he hopes more will after checking out the tweets and videos he posted while on the ocean.
