Wildrose slams NDP over power purchasing agreements lawsuit

The official opposition says the NDP lawsuit over power purchasing arrangements is “absurd” and will hurt taxpayer-owned energy companies.

The NDP is going to court to change some wording in provincial legislation over the arrangements that they believe are illegal.

Don Macintyre, Electricity and Renewables Critic with the Wildrose Party, says it doesn’t make sense to paint a well-managed company like enmax and its profits as evil.

“A lot of those profits that Enmax earn go back into the City of Calgary to keep their taxes low, millions more are spent on charities, and the rest of it is reinvested back into Enmax, creating thousands of jobs for Albertans. What is wrong with that picture? Why is that somehow bad?”

He adds, the money the NDP is spending on the lawsuit and newspaper ads explaining it to Albertans is a waste of taxpayer dollars.
