First responders remained focused in search for boy in Yoho River

“It’s a parent’s worst nightmare”.

Those words from the incident commander, leading the effort to find an 11-year-old boy who was swept away in the Yoho River over the weekend.

His body was discovered Tuesday, after rescue crews fought through lack of sleep and diminishing sunlight to look for him.

Lisa Paulson says 35 search and rescue crews helped on Friday into the evening hours, but tapered off over the weekend.

While dealing with an emergency situation like this, she says the adrenaline is pumping, especially because searchers have empathy for the family’s situation.

“Many responders are parents, and it’s any parent’s worst nightmare. Most responders are able to focus on their task at hand and their training and I think all the agencies came together to provide an incredibly thorough search.”

She says now that the family of Behzad Ahmad have closure, they can begin the healing process.
