Fort McMurray still contending with heavy smoke

Heavy smoke will cloud over the Fort McMurray region, but it’s not coming from any local wildfires.

According to Alberta Agriculture and Forestry, fires burning in the Northwest Territories will blow smoke into the area, which has already seen its share of wildfire devastation.

Information Officer Lynn Daina says people should take precautions if they have breathing problems.

“There’s a cold front coming down, which is pushing the smoke into the Fort McMurray forest area,” she explained. “Over the next few days, we can anticipate that smoke drifting this way and it’s also going to bring with that cold front some showers and lightning.”

The wildfire hazard in the region is currently very high.
