Security tips for Pokémon Go enthusiasts in Calgary

Pokémon Go isn’t even available in Canada, but thousands of Canadians and many here in Calgary are already playing the popular mobile game.

But there are some serious pitfalls associated with Pokémon Go, and we’re not just talking about running out of Poké Balls.

Leah Brownridge with the Better Business Bureau says it’s not a good idea to download the app through a third-party provider, since it’s actually not available in Canada yet.

“That can mean your personal information or financial information can be accessed by that third-party app and strangers you don’t know,” she explained. “Make sure you reading all of terms and conditions and privacy policies of any third-party app. Pay attention to what they ask your permission to access.”

She adds even though the game can be played completely free, you can buy PokeCoins to speed things up and you’ll want to make sure you have a secure payment method.
