Two injured, one dead after violent home invasion in Beddington

One man is dead and two people are in hospital, following a home invasion in the city’s northeast.

Police received calls about a suspicious person in the community of Beddington around 11:30 Sunday night.

Constable David Fakas says a few minutes later they were alerted to a possible break and enter and officers headed to the scene.

Paramedics rushed a man in his mid-60s and woman in her 30s to hospital, in serious, potentially life-threatening condition.

The HAWCS helicopter and crews on the ground then spotted another man fleeing the area.

“While they were attempting to take him into custody, the offender took his own life,” Fakas said.

It appears the man killed himself with a knife.

Police are still trying to figure out a motive and connection between the man and those attacked in their home.

Investigators are also trying to determine if other homes were targeted.

“We don’t know. There were several calls in the neighbourhood around that time. We’ve just got units canvassing the area to see if there are any other places that were,” Fakas said.
