Stampede Caravan ready to kick off pancake breakfast season

The Calgary Stampede is just two weeks away and you know what that means: the Stampede Caravan is getting ready for its breakfast tour.

Ruth Ann Rayner with the Stampede Caravan Committee says all of the trucks are serviced and ready to go.

“We have upwards of 10, 12 trucks — the batter vans, the trucks that pull the trailers with the pony rails,” says Rayner.

Each event starts at 7 a.m. when they roll in to train volunteers to make thousands of pancakes and by 9 a.m., they’re ready to go.

“We have pony rides, a petting zoo; we have visits from our native dancers or drummers this year. We also have a western stage band, we have visiting marching bands come out. For two hours, it’s just a ten ring circus,” she explained.

The event will have two breakfast sittings for a full seven days this year and they expect to serve upwards of 20,000 people on the first Sunday alone.
