After month of getting the land ready, crews will start building a new 330,000 square foot recreation centre in the southeast.
Mayor Naheed Nenshi and other special guests visited the site of the Seton Recreation Centre to mark the start of construction.
When it’s finished in 2018, the facility will include ice rinks, gyms, a fitness centre, pools, and a multipurpose space.
It will also house a physiotherapy and medical clinic, along with a 25,000 square foot library.
The $193-million building is funded through the city’s community and recreation levy and the Government of Alberta’s Municipal Sustainability Initiative.
