Summer dresses, pocket squares: Packwood Grand brings glamour to horse racing

A glamorous horse racing derby will be held in Calgary on Canada Day.

Packwood Grand is modeled after big events like the Royal Ascot in the U.K. and the Kentucky Derby.

Vice-President Tyler Rygus says it’s nothing like southern Alberta has seen before.

” People are dressed up — women in summer dresses and floppy hats, the gentlemen in three piece suits with bow ties, pocket squares. It’s a day of racing that is a little different then you would normally see in going to the track,” he explained.

Packwood Grand is being held at the Century Downs Racetrack and Casino on July 1.
