Calgary Muslim community honours Muhammad Ali

Calgary’s Muslim community came out Sunday to remember Muhammad Ali’s life at the Green Dome Mosque.

Around 100 people reflected on the work Ali has done for Muslims, globally.

Imam Syed Soharwardy says families from all over the city packed the room.

“We came in solidarity to express for condolences and sadness on the passing of Muhammad Ali and to remind our children and everybody that he was not just a boxing champion, but also he was a defender of the Muslim community,” said Soharwardy. “He stood up recently when Donald Trump said Muslims should be banned and Islam is at war with United States. Ali stood up and said: ‘that is not true and you need to learn about my faith, Islam.'”

Soharwardy says we should follow the good work Ali did in society and carry on his legacy in the future.
