Booze-fuelled night eventually leads to Forest Lawn death: CPS

Calgary police say heavy alcohol use played a big role in the eventual death of a woman in her 30’s at a Forest Lawn home and charges are pending against one person.

It was around 11:00 p.m. when police arrived at the residence in the 1800 block of 42 St. S.E., finding the woman had been seriously assaulted.

She was transported to hospital in life-threatening condition and eventually died.

Insp. Don Coleman said some sort of social gathering was going on at the home, with children present at the time.

“There was a considerable amount of alcohol consumed by most or all the people that were in attendance there and the verbal argument that escalated to a physical confrontation, that was we believe, fuelled in part by alcohol,” he said.

Three people were arrested and charges are pending against one person.

“We believe the relationship to be domestic in nature,” Coleman said. “Not between intimate partners, but of an extended family nature.”

A weapon was recovered, but it’s not clear what kind, or is it known what exactly the argument was about.

Coleman said it wasn’t the first time police have been called to the residence.
