Recovery hotline up and running for returning Fort McMurray business owners

Business owners re-entering fire-ravaged Fort McMurray will have support to pick up the pieces.

A recovery hotline is now set up to help what Mayor Melissa Blake has called the “backbone of the region.”

Lisa Slade, Senior Economic Development Officer with the Municipality of Wood Buffalo says there’s a tough road ahead.

“Some businesses, you know, may not have insurance, cash flow is obviously something that businesses may have a challenge with, and some businesses may not have space, they may not be able to enter into their space,” she said.

Slade says 1-855-RWMB-BIZ (855-769-2249) will not only give business owners advice, but will help figure out what is needed long term.

“Next week, we are hoping to have a back to business resource centre open for the business community in Fort McMurray, and the information that’s collected in this hotline, will help us better understand what needs to be in that resource centre,” Slade explained.

The hotline is being funded by the Red Cross, and will be open 24 hours, seven days a week.

“The business community is vital to giving residents the quality of life that they need,” Slade said.
