Green Calgary giving the new city-wide composting program a big thumbs up

Green Calgary is happy to hear Calgary is moving forward with a city-wide composting program starting by the middle of 2017.
Council approved the program Monday and it will come with a price tag of $6.50 per month for home owners, who will also see black bin pick-up reduced to once every other week.
Areni Kelleppan with Green Calgary says the city is just catching up with the times.
“There is a green bin program in many of Canada’s major cities, so Calgary is just following suit on a trend that is happening across Canada and across the States,” she said. “Quite frankly we are a bit behind the times so it’s great we are bringing in the program”.
She says, the value of having green bins is there, pointing out waste disposal would likely cost more down the road if the program wasn’t brought in.
