Suncor restarts operations

Just days before people start going back to Fort McMurray, oilsands production has restarted at one plant.

Suncor announced initial production got underway at its Firebag in-situ facility last week.

Startup activities are also progressing at the MacKay River and base plant. The company is forecasting initial production there by the end of this week.

Fort Hills should be ready to go in a matter of days as well.

More than 4,000 employees and contractors are now back in the area, and another 3,500 will be brought in over the next week.

Alberta Health Services gave Suncor the go ahead Friday to start using their lodges again, that’s where many of the workers are staying.
