Humane Society’s Dog Jog barking up Guinness Record tree

Dog owners are gearing up for a run in Calgary’s South Glenmore Park Saturday.

However, this run will do more than get them some fresh air and exercise.

The annual Dog Jog is a major fundraiser for the Calgary Humane Society.

The organization’s Phil Fulton tells 660 NEWS, on top of the funds raised, they’ve got something new they’re planning this year.

“We are going for a Guinness World Record for most dogs wearing bandanas in one place. So, this is pretty huge. Our record we’re going for is about 800 dogs, which is previously held by another shelter in Australia, I believe, at around 750,” says Fulton.

“We’re just asking anybody that’s got a dog that is okay being in large groups of people and that is okay with other dogs, to come on down and help us break this record!”

As well, this year’s event will also help evacuees and their pets.

“This year though we wanted to help some of the people and animals impacted by the Fort McMurray wildfire. So we are giving a portion of the registration fees to some of the registered charities in that area who have been supporting some of the people and animals affected,” says the organization’s Sage Pullen McIntosh.

There will be a family friendly area, a kids’ zone, free behaviour demos and a market with all sorts of pet products.
