Just days before the first residents will be allowed back into Fort McMurray, provincial officials say the raging wildfire that forced them out continues to burn.
The Fort McMurray wildfire remains out of control at 579,946 hectares. As of 9 a.m. Sunday, there were 14 active wildfires in the province.
There are 2,292 firefighters battling the flames in Alberta, many of whom are from across Canada, while hundreds more are coming from the U.S. and South Africa.
They’re being backed up by hundreds of helicopters, heavy equipment and air tankers.
As the date to return the community draws closer, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo posted a reminder to evacuees, coming from Director of Emergency Management Bob Couture.
