As Fort McMurray residents get ready to head home, the director of the Wood Buffalo Emergency Operations Centre has a message for returnees: keep calm.
In a short video posted to Twitter, Bob Couture says they may see some disturbing things as they drive into the city, like smoke in the air.
“We suggest that you download the Alberta Emergency app. This will keep you informed on emergency conditions as you make your way back to our community,” he said.
The wildfire that devastated the city continues to burn out of control and is about 566,000 hectares in size.
There are 14 other wildfires in the province currently burning.
Two in the Slave Lake area are out of control but are less than 2.5 hectares combined.
