Calgary storm chaser watches large tornado rip through Kansas

Things could have turned out much worse.

A Calgary storm chaser witnessed a large twister spare the majority of homes in its path in Kansas Wednesday night, tweeting some dramatic photos and footage.

Beth Allan says they were expecting it to be a down day, until they noticed cues in the sky a tornado was beginning to form.

She says Chapman, Kansas got a bit of a break after being hit a few years ago.

“(The tornado) did what we sort of call threading the needle: it looked like it was going to make a direct hit on both the towns, and then just because — a fluke of nature or someone was looking out for them — it wobbled a little bit and ended up missing most of the towns that it hit,” Allan said.

She says thankfully, no deaths or injuries have been reported.

Her crew will be hanging around Nebraska and Oklahoma Thursday, expecting to see some more tornado activity.
