One man dead, another in hospital following rollover near Sundre

One man is dead and another is in hospital, following an off-highway vehicle rollover northwest of Sundre.

Emergency crews were called to the scene near Birch Lake around 1:15 p.m. Saturday.

When they arrived, they started CPR on the 37-year-old driver, however, after 45 minutes, the man was pronounced dead on scene.

The 31-year-old passenger was airlifted to a Calgary hospital by STARS Air Ambulance, and is said to be in stable condition.

RCMP have not identified the victims, but say the driver is from Blackfalds, and the passenger is from Red Deer.

Investigators believe the two men were operating a Razor 800 Side by Side, when they lost control while going down a hill.

The vehicle rolled and was significantly damaged. Officers believe both men were wearing helmets and were buckled into the vehicle with a four point harness.

The incident is still under investigation, and the medical examiner will conduct toxicology tests to see if alcohol or drugs may have been factors.
