AHS launches new website for people to give thanks to health care workers

A new Alberta Health Services website lets Albertans send messages of thanks to someone who may have looked after them while in a hospital or care centre.

www.thanksforcaring.ca is a new site where people can write a note of gratitude to their health care professional.

Interim VP for Alberta Health Services communications Colleen Turner explains how it works.

“Give a time frame, the site that this took place in, then you can write and personalize your thank you note, we’ve got a few different options there; shapes, colours, emoji’s things like that and once you’ve accepted the terms of use people can post their message.” Turner said.

She says AHS will then track down the individual or care team to make sure they receive the letter.

“This is what they do they provide care day in and day out but I have seen some specific examples of when people come back and I can tell you it’s genuinely appreciated.”

She adds there is a high demand for people to get into contact with health care workers so that’s what made them develop the website.

“It can be an urgent situation, it could be a crisis situation and part of what we do here for a patient is when they leave that’s when they kind of think about a little more of what happens and often times it almost seems like it’s part of their healing process.”

Since the websites launch on Friday it already has over 20 submissions.
