A non-profit foundation is offering free counselling sessions to Fort McMurray evacuees staying in Calgary.

Marina Agafonov with Serenity Now Wellness says they understand how difficult and stressful it can be to cope with such a traumatic event.

And Agafonov, a registered provisional psychologist, has some advice on how to help kids who may have lost their home in the fire.

“The house that burnt down, yes it has lots of wonderful memories but at the end of the day, it’s just that and it can be rebuilt,” she said. “Stressing the importance that you have your family with you and your loved ones is what’s important — just stressing that everything can be rebuilt and remade, and you can make even more wonderful memories.”

Agafonov encourages anyone from Fort McMurray who wants to talk or who needs counselling to contact Serenity Now Wellness and make an appointment.
